Ce-C Student Leaders Support I Transform Campaign

Last December 1, 2012, student leaders from Cristal e-College joined the 125 delegates coming from 16 different organizations province-wide during the I Transform Campaign Youth Interact and Bayanitaktakan:  Forum on the UNMDGs and Youth Empowerment held at the Bohol Wisdom School AVR.

During the forum, the delegates were oriented about the 8 United Nations Millennium Development Goals and what the youth of the Philippines can do to contribute.  As an action, the event ushered the launching of the 1st I Transform Campaign Catalyst Project wherein the Hambabauran Barangay High School in Ubay was chosen as beneficiary. Tagged as the HI 2013 (Hambabauran Initiative 2013), the project declares April 24, 2013 as the "I Transform Day" that aims to gather support through youth to youth partnership in building the school.

EdCriBA Conquers CeC Palaro 2012

After 5 days of athletic, academic, and musical competitions during the CeC Palaro 2012 last September 25-29,  EdCriBA Team (Education, Criminology and Business Administration) made a historic win against its 4 competitors-- MEAN (Marine Engineering and Nursing), IIAS (Informatics), Navigators (Marine Transportation), and HMD-Theology. To note, it is the team's first time to emerge as the Palaro's over-all champion making the victory one of its greatest achievement.

Garnering a total of 22 gold, EdCriBA indeed had a close competition with MEAN (21 gold) and IIAS (20 gold). However, considering the number of silver and bronze medals it earned, it is evident that the team is CeC Palaro's rightful champ.

The 1st Phoenix Pub Workshop a Success!

The Phoenix: Official School Publication of Cristal e-College  conducted a successful whole-day workshop last August 11, 2012 at the Mini Function Hall, Cristal e-College for aspiring 2012-2013 Editorial Staff. The event was spearheaded by the senior staff, Hannah Adellit Rodriguez-Editor in Chief, Melvin Salinasal-Associate Editor, Stella Caroline Fernandez-Feature Editor, Giesella Joy Cagata-Cartoonist, and Joseph Ranel Cabagnot-Photographer with the new school publication adviser, Mr. Philogene Florita.

Feature: I Transform! Young Leaders Convention BEST Visayas Wave

The  I Transform! Young Leaders Convention BEST Visayas Wave is an event that aims to introduce transformational leadership among Filipino young leaders and make them active partners in the pursuit of a socially-transformed Philippines. It seeks to address pressing social issues using transformative approach. The Convention comes as offshoot of the First BIDA (Building Initiatives for Desire  and Action) National Young Leaders Summit (FBNYLS) that took place in October 2011 where 30 youth and student organizations committed to do their active share in social transformation. The FBNYLS was held in line with the year-round sesquicentennial celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s birth. 

What is I Transform?

It is a youth-oriented campaign developed by YouthLEAD Philippines to advocate action among Filipino young leaders using the vehicle of transformational leadership. The  I Transform! Campaign moves in a two-pronged approach. First is the facilitation of self-transformation, hence the word “I”, as basic requisite to the higher goal of community transformation, which is the second. YouthLEAD Philippines believes that transformation begins in oneself and that every small gesture of positive change contributes to the bigger cause of social transformation. Furthermore, a coalition of young leaders’ groups will be formed after the  I Transform! Convention to map-out the initiatives that will be undertaken in specific areas in Visayas to promote the  I Transform! Campaign and to carry-out community-based actions guided by the development agenda that were adopted during the FBNYLS, namely; Synergy, Health, Education, Environment, and Peace.

As a Filipino young leader, why join?

The Convention is open to all young leaders aging 15 to 30, individually or those who belong to any youth and student organization across youth sub-sectors  like Sangguniang Kabataan, student governments, student publications, religious youth groups, campus organizations, NSTP-CWTS, NSTP-MS, among others.

To guide the young leaders on the next steps, a formal document will be drawn – the I Transform! 2012 Bohol Visayas Declaration.

7 Effective Study Tips for College Students

Examinations are fast approaching! The biggest question that lies here is--Are you ready?

It's no secret that college requires a whole lot of studying. Learning how to study effectively can sometimes be tricky, but with the right tips and tricks, you can combat your studying worries. Here are 8 tips for us students to have an easier time with studying:

1. Complete all course requirements – Be sure that before you start studying for your exams that you have accomplished all the assignments, researches, projects etc.You sure don't like having this kind of trouble on examination day instead of getting busy studying.

2. Use Mnemonics - Mnemonics are effective techniques that aids information retention  by using acronyms, key words and phrases. A basic example for this is the "MDAS" rule (Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract) another is the "ROYGBIV" where each of the letters matches the colors of the rainbow in order (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet).

3. Be prepared - Know the exam coverage for each subject then start preparing outlines and guides. Gather all your notes and make an organize list of relevant key points and if possible, include the page numbers where these points can be found. Preparing for tests often involves more than knowing facts, figures, formulas, and definitions. Many instructors expect you to demonstrate critical thinking, which involves more than rote memorization.  Therefore, you must organize and process course materials so that you can increase your comprehension and ability to think critically.

4. Test Yourself - To ensure that you are already prepared, make a mock exam to test how well you know the material. This is also effective in group studies where you can also exchange and share ideas. Write down a list of keywords or questions and make sure to leave space underneath each one. Then, pretend that you’re taking the exam and write down as much as you can.

5. Get Enough Rest - College students who get a full night of sleep are more alert, more focused and learn things easier than those who are sleep deprived.  Especially during the weeks preceding exams, keep your sleep schedule as consistent as possible.

6. "No man, is an island" - Studying with other people can be a great way to enhance what you learn while studying on your own. They can also help give you ideas about matters that you may not have studied or reviewed by yourself.

7. Be confident - You've studied, you're prepared. Anxiety and fear will just ruin all your efforts. In taking your exam, you should be calm and confident to reduce the tension and pressure.

Some students erroneously believe that studying a lot is the answer. Well, it may be true that increasing the amount you spend on your studies may be important, but the key to becoming a successful student is learning how to study smart and set priorities right.

What is the Supreme Student Council?

The Supreme Student Council (SSC) is the highest governing Student Body in Cristal e-College. 

The Cristal e-College–Supreme Student Council (CeC–SSC) is mandated to promote the general welfare of the students, to assert and defend the rights of the students, to advocate Academic Freedom, and ultimately to uphold its constitution and that of the Republic of the Philippines. It is the only legitimate representative of the student body to the administration. The Supreme Student Council President, Vice–President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Auditor, together with its 7 Councilors are voted at large through an election held every February, and will hold office at the council for a year.

Beyond Excellence: Ce-C Welcomes a New Era

Cristal e-College’s quest for excellence has gone way farther than it had been before. ISO accreditations, CHED and TESDA approval and commendation of high standard programs, constant boost of sponsors and investors coming in, continuous increase of population, overwhelming improvements of facilities, name it all. Ce-C got it all for you!

Recently, Ce-C acquired another addition to its first-class facilities—an estimated P7.5 million ship simulator, designed for education and procedural training for Deck and Engine Cadets. It allows trainees to survey and learn safety procedures before it is done in real life like maneuvering ships at different environments and locations. The simulator is ideal for collaboration and teamwork training in the same manner to expose them in actual modern vessel setting.

Among the 93 maritime institutions in the country, Ce-C enlisted itself as the 7^th to acquire the new technology, with the most advanced and modern in terms of hardware and software. This state of the art equipment is expected to give Ce-C maritime students an edge in the MSAP examination not only in the written test but also in the actual assessment in simulator operation. In an interview of The Phoenix with the Maritime Superintendent Capt. Teresito Alon, MM, he stressed that the college is really dedicated to provide world-class facilities to promote the school’s dictum of Excellence in Global Education. Capt. Alon added that the college’s aim is to make it to the top 5 maritime colleges (from 9^th place) in the said exams.

Furthermore, the administration is acquiring an approval from the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) for official licensed Deck and Engine simulator training. If approved, the school will be offering these trainings even to other Maritime schools. Ce-C also boasts its well-trained instructors and is planning to add more in preparation for the upcoming semester. “We are expecting a considerable increase in the maritime department’s population by the next academic year, hence, the need for more proficient instructors is being taken into consideration”, Capt. Alon remarked. Asked about his vision for Cristal e-College, he responded with a confident smile, “Probably by the next 3-5 years, Ce-C will already be able to acquire its own training vessel”—a vision not impossible to achieve for an institution with the passion for excellence.
